Description

APHELIcontrol to control aphids

Aphelinus abdominalis
APHELIcontrol contains mummies of the parasitic  wasp Aphelinus abdominalis. The parasitic wasp parasitizes, like Aphidius ervi, mainly on potato aphids (Macrosiphum euphorbiae) and the foxglove aphid (Aulacorthum solani). Aphelinus abdominalis has a slower effect compared to the Aphidius ervi, but a longer duration of action.

A mature Aphelinus abdominalis is 3 mm in size and has relatively short legs and short antennas. The female has a black thorax and a yellow abdomen. The male is slightly smaller and has a dark abdomen. Usually the sex ratio is around 50/50.

The adult lays her eggs in the aphids. First the parasitic wasp stuns the aphid by stinging it’s leg. Then the parasitic wasp lays an egg inside the Aphid. The placing of the egg can take 20 to 60 seconds.  Aphelinus abdominalis could lay about 80 to 100 eggs a day. An adult also kills dozens of aphids through host feeding (which results in a longer life for the parasitic wasp). A parasitized aphid turns into a leathery black coloured mummy. When the parasitic wasp is mature, it leaves the mummy. 10 days after introduction of the parasitic wasp in the greenhouse, the first mummies can be seen. Female parasitic wasps can parasitize aphids for a period of two months.

Product characteristics
• Extremely suitable for potato aphids and the foxglove aphid
• High longevity (due to host feeding).
• Active searching behaviour
• High ovi position of 80-100 eggs per day.
• Less sensitive to hyperparasitsm.

Quality control
At Royal Brinkman, a team of specialists checks the quality of beneficial insects, mites and nematodes. Based on a protocol they work to deliver the best quality to the customers.

Packaging
APHELIcontrol is delivered in bottles with buckwheat as a carrier material, which protects the mummies from moisture and possible damage  during transport. APHELIcontrol is available In the following packages:
• 250 mummies / bottle (100ml)
• 1.000 mummies / bottle (100ml)
• 5.000 mummies / bottle (250 ml)
APHELIcontrol is also available as a mix with other types of parasitic wasps, for the simultaneous control of multiple aphid species.

User instructions
Introduce the parasitic wasps at dusk. Since the Aphelinus abdominalis is not very mobile, the parasitic wasp should be close introduced to the affected plants. Open the bottle at the place of use. Divide the mummies equally over the surface to be treated. Spread the mummies on sun-sheltered and dry places. APHELIcontrol is applicable in many different crops, including: tomato, paprika, eggplant, haricot, gerbera, rose and chrysanthemum.

Receipt and storage
Upon receipt, check the product for abnormalities and report any complaints or comments within 24 hours. Preferably use the product immediately. If storage is required, the product should be stored horizontally and in a dark place at a temperature of 8-10°C for a maximum of 24 hours. If the product is stored longer and/or under different conditions Royal Brinkman is not liable for any loss of quality.
