Description

Aphidius matricariae
MATRIcontrol contains mummies of the parasitic wasp Aphidius matricariae. Due to its extremely good search behavior, the parasitic wasp is very effective in controlling green peach aphids (Myzus persicae) and related species such as tabacco peach aphids (Myzus persicae var. nicotianae) and the peach patato aphid (myzus persicae var. Persicae). In addition to the peach aphids, it also disturbes aphid populations such as the butterfly aphid (aulacothum solani)

A mature Aphidius matricariae is about 2 to 3 mm in size. A. matricariae is a slim black parasitic wasp with brown legs, long antenna and striking nerves on the wings. A mature A. matricariae lives for about 2 to 3 weeks.

The female only needs a fraction of a second to inject the egg in the aphid. Compared with other Aphidius species, Aphidius matricariae parasites faster and more aphids. The parasitic wasp lays around 100 eggs and could parasitize up to three hundred aphids. Most of the eggs are laid during the first four days.

Product characteristics
• Excellent search behaviour
• Very effective control of the green peach aphid.
• Also available as cultivation-specific mixes
• Less sensitive to hyper parasitism.

Packaging
MATRIcontrol is supplied in bottles with buckwheat as carrier material, which protects the mummies from moisture and possible damage  during transport.

MATRIcontrol is available in the following packages:

  • 500 mummies / bottle (100 ml)
  • 5.000 mummies / bottle (250 ml)

MATRIcontrol is also available as a mix with other types of parasitic wasps, for the simultaneous control of multiple aphid species.

User instructions
Introduce the parasitic wasps at dusk. Open the package at the place of use. Divide the mummies equally over the surface to be treated. Spread the mummies on sun-sheltered and dry places.

The optimum temperature for the Aphidius matricariae is between 18 and 22°C. It is recommended to not use MATRIcontrol at temperatures below  10°C. Also, the effectivity of Aphidius matricariae drops at temperatures above 30°C.

Receipt and storage
Upon receipt, check the product for abnormalities and report any complaints or comments within 24 hours. Preferably use the product immediately. If storage is required, the product should be stored horizontally and in a dark place at a temperature of 8-10°C for a maximum of 24 hours.
