Blueberries
Blueberries are perennial flowering plants of the genus ‘Vaccinium’ that are usually grown for their dark berries. Blueberries can be grown on a wide range of climatic conditions. However, the best thrive in warmer (full sun) climates. Blueberry crop prefers soils which are highly acidic, fertile, aerated, moist and well-drained. The optimal soil pH range is 4.0 to 5.5 for best growth and yield.

Pollination of blueberries

To achieve the highest possible crop yields, it is essential to ensure pollination of the flowers on your farm. Naturally present pollinating insects are often not sufficient for this purpose, so that the targeted use of highly efficient bumblebee colonies is advisable, especially in the colder growing season in blueberry crops.

Common blueberry diseases 

Blueberries are particularly commonly affected by fungal diseases. A common problem is infestation with Botrytis cinerea (gray mold rot). However, Phytophthora diseases (especially Phytophthora fragariae and Phytophthora cactorum) are also common in blueberrycultivation. 

In addition on blueberries, white spot disease, red spot disease, Verticillium wilt and Mucor are problematic diseases that need to be treated in time.

Blueberry plants can also be attacked by harmful insects. Thrips on blueberries, cyclamen mites, the blueberry blossom pest and aphids on blueberries are particularly common.
