Description

Vermiculite is a mineral which, when heated rapidly above 900 degrees, exfoliates like a harmonica and becomes several times larger than the original ore. The result is a very light, non-combustible, inert, highly heat-resistant insulation material.

The material is given a multi-layered lattice-like structure, like pages of a book, separated by layers of air. In this way, a very large surface enlargement has been created that is highly absorbent. It is also completely asbestos-free.

RHP quality mark
Vermiculite is a purely natural product; it has no negative environmental impact and is absolutely non-combustible. We supply vermiculite with the RHP quality mark. This quality mark is necessary in the substrate market and guarantees that the substrate meets the correct quality requirements for the water and air content and, for example, pH values. RHP-certified substrates ensure an optimal start to cultivation. The raw material (vermiculite) that can be used in potting soil (depending on the recipe of the potting soil) is available from us.

Properties

  • Mineral inorganic raw material;
  • No negative environmental impact;
  • Odourless;
  • Absolutely flammable;
  • Chemically inert, decay free, does not mould;
  • High resilience and moisture absorption due to open cell structure;
  • Asbestos free;
  • Seeds germinate better;
  • Fast rooting;
  • Carrier for water and nutrients.

Application
Vermiculite is mainly used as a growing medium in greenhouse horticulture. It retains water, so that the top layer of the potting soil does not dry out as quickly. It is also used as an absorbent when packing and transporting hazardous substances. Because it is so light, it is often used in aviation. Vermiculite is also fire resistant, making it an ideal insulator.
