Sustainable tomato production at Frövi Greenery

Boosting local food supply in Sweden

Bas van den Bosch - Technical Manager Frövi Greenhouse
Innovation meets sustainability at the Frövi Greenery in Sweden. In this newly built 10-hectare greenhouse, they produce 8,000 tons of fresh tomatoes each year. With an additional 10 hectares under construction, Frövi is setting a new standard for sustainable and efficient tomato cultivation.
Recycling heat and reusing water to cultivate tomatoes
Commissioned by KUBO, Royal Brinkman had the honour of playing a key role in realising the modern greenhouse setup at Frövi Greenery. As the executing partner, we were responsible for installing the technical systems, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and water conservation.

The greenhouse uses residual heat from a nearby paper factory and sources its water from a lake just a few kilometres away. This smart use of local resources keeps energy costs low and makes Frövi a leading example of sustainable greenhouse horticulture.

By growing tomatoes locally, the project strengthens food security in Sweden, reduces imports, and gives consumers access to fresher and more sustainable products.

"Using the excess heat from the paper factory reduces our energy costs and minimizes our carbon footprint."

- Bas van den Bosch, Technical Manager at Frövi Greenery
Discover our contribution
We’re proud to have contributed — on behalf of KUBO — to a greenhouse setup that’s ready for the future. With our technical expertise and in close collaboration with project partners, we helped build a modern greenhouse that meets Frövi’s high standards. Discover how we support Frövi Greenery in producing fresh, sustainable tomatoes for the Swedish market.
Water technology Frövi
Water technology
The advanced water system filters lake water using reverse osmosis. An automatic flushing system ensures a constant supply of clean water and nutrients for the plants.
Electrical engineering Frövi
Electrical engineering
We installed an efficient electrical system with 18 control panels. These panels manage the heating, ventilation and lighting systems. The heating system runs on residual heat from the nearby paper factory.
Hoogendoorn Frövi
Climate control
We installed Hoogendoorn’s advanced IIVO system, which monitors everything from temperature to humidity. The system can be remotely managed by the grower to ensure optimal growing conditions.
KUBO Frövi
Commissioned by KUBO
Together with KUBO, we tackled the challenges of this project with a shared focus on quality. Through strong collaboration, we contributed to an innovative, sustainable, and future-proof greenhouse setup.
Boosting local tomato production with a modern greenhouse
The Frövi project is the result of strong collaboration between several partners with KUBO leading the project and contributions from Hoogendoorn, Verkade, PDI, Anima Trading, and others. We are proud of this role as the executing party within this team.

Frövi Greenery boosts local tomato production, reduces Sweden’s reliance on imports, and contributes to food security. Additionally, the greenhouse's energy-efficient design, including the recycling of excess heat, ensures that the project remains highly sustainable.
