Electrical engineering at Frövi
A smart electrical design to power a sustainable greenhouse
At Frövi in Sweden, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. The greenhouse is heated using residual heat from a nearby paper factory. On behalf of KUBO, we integrated this heat source directly into the heating system. By working closely with the heat supplier from the start, we developed the most efficient electrical design for this project.
Efficient electrical setup
Frövi Greenery is a unique technical project with sustainability at its core. As part of the electrical installation, we installed all pumps and control systems on behalf of KUBO. This setup allows Frövi to make full use of the excess heat from the paper factory. It ensures the heating system can use this residual heat effectively.
We connected all systems and installed 18 control panels. These manage the greenhouse departments, heating, and AVS units. We also installed additional panels for the lighting systems. The technical integration allows everything to work together, ensuring the systems stay up and running at all times.

“Frövi is a unique technical project we had the privilege to contribute to. Sustainability is the key.”

Adapting to the rocky terrain
Remco explains: “One major challenge was laying the underground cables on the rocky terrain. We even had to use dynamite to make space.” Despite the difficult conditions, the team created a detailed digging plan and worked closely with other teams. That ensured perfect alignment for all lines and cables—whether for CO₂, heating, electricity, or water. This strong collaboration made the project a success, even under tough conditions.

A sustainable solution for Sweden's cold climate
The system in the greenhouse consists of three heat sources: the paper factory, two heat pumps, and a bio-oil boiler. These sources can operate independently or together, optimizing sustainability at all times. The integrated heat system also includes frost protection and snow-melting capabilities, ensuring uninterrupted operations in Sweden's cold winters.
A fully integrated system
“By working closely with KUBO and the customer, we overcame the challenges and delivered a fully integrated system,” Remco says. The result is a greenhouse that runs smoothly under all conditions and supports sustainable horticulture. This project highlights the importance of collaboration, precision, and adaptability. At Royal Brinkman Technical Projects, we’re proud to have made a valuable contribution to this innovative and sustainable solution.
“Thanks to close cooperation with our client KUBO and the grower, we were able to deliver a fully integrated system.”
