How can you fight the cucumber green mosaic virus?

Cucumber green mosaic virus is a plant disease that occurs in cucumber crops and which is especially visible on young leaves. This virus is spread in several ways. The virus can be transmitted through sap of diseased plants and by contaminated knives and scissors while working on the crops. Crop remnants (such as residue of leaves and roots) can contain the virus, allowing transmission to occur during contact with new crop. In addition to contamination through materials and old crops, the virus can also spread through drain water. Cucumber green mosaic virus - unlike many other diseases - is not transmitted by insects.

Cucumber green mosaic virus identification

The cucumber green mosaic virus can be recognized by light and dark green spotted young leaves especially near the growth areas. In addition, dark green lumps may form on the leaves. As the leaves continue to grow, they can have a light color with dark green spots, or the other way around. In the summer, these symptoms are often visible for 2 or 3 weeks after infection. In winter this takes longer, when you notice it after about a month. Often, the fruits are not affected, because they are harvested at a young stage.

Symptoms of the virus disappear when the leaves mature in growth. However, the virus itself does not disappear and the plant will always remain infected.
