Hygiene protocol roses
Hygiene is a very important issue in horticulture: with the help of various hygiene measures, we must prevent bacteria, fungi and viruses from entering the company or staying behind during the crop rotation. The hygiene protocol for roses helps with this! In the protocol you will find the steps that should be followed for optimal cleaning and disinfection during cultivation, and what measures should be taken during cultivation.
Action | Note | |
End of cultivation | Use broad-spectrum means to end the old cultivation free of insects.
Clearing the greenhouse | Mechanical removal of crop residues, pots, dirt, etc.
Cleaning | Intermediate gable | Make an intermediate gable of plastic between the compartments to be cleared and the compartments that still have plants in them. |
Greenhouse cleaning | If necessary, spray the glass on the inside with plenty of water. The use of glass cleaners is not recommended unless a section is completely separated from sections where there is still crop.
Cleaning screen fabric/walls | For green deposits: close the canvas and spray with 1% Menno ter Forte (hose down after 1 day with plenty of water). Caution! Only possible if it is a separate department.
Cleaning of cultivation gutters | Spray off with hot water (high pressure). For heavy soiling: use Menno Hortisept Clean 1 - 3%. Preferably apply in foaming form (foaming version is Menno Hortisept Clean Plus). Rinse with warm water within 15 minutes (avoid drying). (If you have a lot of algae, choose Menno ter Forte 1%.)(Ask your gutter supplier about the guarantee conditions when using Hortisept Clean.)
Cleaning drip hose (inside) | At the end of the crop, assess the degree of contamination of the drip tube. * Use 3% chlorine bleach lye in case of organic contamination. (product: chlorine bleach lye 150 grams/ltr active chlorine) * Use 3% nitric acid in case of mineral contamination. (product: nitric acid 38%) Read the detailed manual 'cleaning drip irrigation lines'. Pay attention to your safety! The dosage of the products mentioned must be done on the tap section to prevent other plants from coming into contact with them. Measure with pH strips or when the acid and lye is out of the pipes; rinse well.
Cleaning drip system (outside) | In case of green stains on the outside hose, inject with 1% Menno ter Forte (do not hose down). * Replace the plugs or immerse them for 24 hours in a solution of at least 5% nitric acid (loosening of dirt). * Disinfect the plugs in a solution of 3% Menno Florades for at least 4 hours.
Disinfection | Disinfect greenhouse space | Start when everything is dry. Also include gutters, drip system, pipe rail system and heating. * Disinfect the whole greenhouse with 2% Menno Florades (use min. 2.500 - 3.000 ltr of liquid). * In case of virus control, minimum 3% Menno Florades should be used. Foam disinfection increases the contact time between disinfectant and virus particles! Make sure the entire greenhouse area is humid as long as possible (air vents closed, dark day, low temperature). Ensure that the greenhouse is heated up and ventilated well before planting (also see the label). Heating up the pipe rail heater is also favourable for the disinfection of the virus. |
Film | Retract (walk) film and lay mats. Prevent contamination of the old film on the new film (use boot covers). Lay an extra layer of film along the concrete path and around the posts. Wrap the bottom of the piles with plastic if necessary.
Other (materials) | Trolleys & Machines | Spray trolleys, spraying robot and other trolleys/machines with 3% Menno Hortisept Clean Plus via the disinfection sprayer. Plant juices and other contaminations will be soaked off. The disinfection sprayer can easily be clicked onto a water hose. Benefits of foam application: visual inspection and better adhesion. Spraying off within 15 minutes. After cleaning disinfect the surfaces with 3% Menno Florades via the disinfection sprayer. |
Spaces | Cleaning of concrete (paths), floors and canteen can also be done using the disinfection sprayer + 3% Menno Hortisept Clean Plus. Disinfection of the above mentioned surfaces with 3% Menno Florades via the disinfection sprayer.
Small tools | Immerse small tools such as knives and scissors in a solution of 3% Menno florades for at least 8 hours. (Check pH of solution after 8 hours; product is effective at pH < 4.5)
During Cultivation | Cleaning of a drip hose | Use ECA water (via ECA unit) or Huwa-San. |
Hygiene for feet & wheels | Use a Flexxo mat (Person or Transport) for feet and wheels. Entire personal hygiene by means of a (URK) hygiene station. Pay attention to pH of 3% Menno florades solution in the mat. Effective at pH < 4.5.
Hands hygiene | Use Menno H in combo with washing with water (sink) and Enno Rapid without water during work.
Materials | Clean (Menno Hortisept Clean Plus) & disinfect (Menno Florades) materials during cultivation. Use the foam sprayer.
Other | Make the rules clear; work with a visitor registration system. |
Note: the advice in this protocol is based on product authorizations in the Netherlands.
