Azatin, for a natural control of thrips and other pests
Thrips is a common pest in horticulture. Azatin is an organic insecticide for ornamentals. It combats all stages of development of the pest thrips and also works against aphids, leafminers and whiteflies. In addition, Azatin has a side effect against caterpillar and bug. In this article we will tell you more about the benefits, effects and application of Azatin.
What is Azatin?
Azatin is a biological insecticide and is listed on the Skal input list. Azatin is based on the active substance azadirachtin, this natural (active) substance comes from the neem tree. Azadirachtine works against all developmental stages of thrips and has the same effect against leaf miner, whitefly and lice. Azatin has a side effect against beetles, bugs and caterpillars. The substance is permitted in all covered floricultural, nursery and perennial crops.
Effect of Azatin
Azatin is absorbed by the leaves. When thrips (or the other insects mentioned above) eat the plant and ingest it with the plant juice, or are touched with the spray liquid, they do not develop to the next stages and die as a result. Besides the controlling effect of the biological insecticide, the drug also has a repellent effect. By using the insecticide preventively, the plant becomes less attractive to pests.
Azatin dosage
When using Azatin, it is important to distribute the product well over the crop. Apply it with sufficient spray liquid. The general dosage advice for Azatin is 0.14%. For roses use a maximum of 1.68 l/time/ha. In all other crops, do not apply more than 1.4 l/time/ha.
Applying Azatin
When applying Azatin, make sure the pH of the spray solution is between 5 and 7. Azatin works best for block sprays of 4 applications with an interval of 7 days. There are 5 block sprays of 4 (20 total) per year.
