Protocol for quality control of bumblebees

The quality of biology is important for effective pollination. This quality is checked by a team of quality controllers before shipment, but when you receive the biology you can choose to check the quality yourself. During the quality control of bumblebees, you assess the quality of the product by using the quality criteria described below.

Quality requirements bumblebees:

Freshness: check the week number on the sticker. This is the reference for the time of deployment.
Smell: a characteristic smell is present: a mix of pollen, sugar and the bumblebees themselves.  Check if the smell is different from what you are used to.
Visibility: the cotton on the inside looks white and clean. Exception: visible pollen on the cotton is no problem. Many holes in the cotton can be an indication of sub-optimal transport or storage conditions.
Activity: when opening the box (at room temperature), good quality bumblebees will be active.
        - A queen is present (often hidden under the cotton).
        - It is estimated that about 70 workers are present.
        - A maximum of 3 dead bumblebees are visible.
