In this video our Crop Rotation specialist Martin Meuldijk explains the differences between the different kinds of tomato hooks: the Valent V-hook, Valent O-hook, Valent HD-hook and the Easy Hook. It is important to choose the right tomato hook for your crop. These galvanized steel hooks are important for high wire cultivation crops, such as tomato and cucumber.

The Valent V-Hook is made from galvanized steel and has two storages of twine: the first storage is located on the tomato hook and the length of the second storage can be determined by yourself and is bound by a rubber band. When hanging the hook the rubber band is being loosened which triggers the fall of the twine. This free fall is accurately measured with an accuracy of 5 cm. The hook are available in different sizes with different kind of twine regarding thickness, color and strength.

The Valent O-Hook also has two storages with a self-determined free fall. With the Valent O-Hook the free fall is not triggered by loosing up the rubber band, but the twine is wrapped like an O through the storage. When hanging this hook the O-wrapped twine will fall with one single hand movement. This free fall is accurately measured with also an accuracy of 5 cm.

The Easy Hook is a tomato high wire hook with a bundle twine which sits together like a ponytail. These tomato hooks with twine are available with or without a free fall. The Easy Hook is made galvanized steel and features a sturdy, metal construction that can support heavy crops without bending. The Easy Hook is additionally available in 26cm hook, specially developed for high wire cucumber cultivation. These metal hooks can be used very effectively in greenhouses for vegetable crops like tomatoes and cucumbers.

The Valent HD-Hook is a tomato plant hook with a single twine storage. These tomato hooks with twine do not feature a free fall. These high wire hooks will be hanged between other hooks in front of an extra stem, with a limited twine length to the extra stem. The whole twine is wrapped around the hook and has to be unwound by hand to get the wanted twine length.

Royal Brinkman delivers the tomato plant Valent High wire hooks in two sizes:

• The 180 mm version is being used in relatively low greenhouses or in slow growing crops;
• The 220 mm version is being used in higher greenhouses, cucumbers and other fast growing crops;  
• The 260 mm version is being used in cucumber cultivation. Only available with the Easy Hook.

If you need tomato high wire hooks with free fall, you can decide yourself what the length of the bundle and what the length of the free fall needs to be. The free fall of a tomato hook is measured for all types and sizes from the top of the hook. 

Besides the different sizes of the tomato hooks, there are also different types of twine that can be wrapped on the high wire hook. The choice for a certain type of twine depends on the crop, desired material and color.
