How do you choose the right hose?

In a greenhouse, various kinds of hoses are used for different applications. Choosing a certain hose depends on different things: the required pressure (bar), the substance you want to move through the hose and the required firmness of the hose. It is important to use the right hose for a certain application, because using the wrong hose can sometimes lead to dangerous situations. If you put too much pressure on a hose, it can burst and cause serious damage. That is why we help you choose the right hose. 

Sizes

When choosing the right hose, you first decide what hose size you need. The dimensions of the hoses are generally displayed in inches, with which the inner diameter of the hose is indicated. When measuring and ordering, make sure you also measure the inner diameter!

Hose types

Next, you choose the right type of hose. We list the most commonly used hoses and the corresponding application(s) for you.

Air hose

A (pressure) air hose is used as a connecting element between a compressor and air tools, for example an air gun or tidal valves. There are various types of air hoses, each suitable for a different application:

  • Transport of compressed air for machines and equipment
  • Transport of industrial gasses
  • Transport of light chemical products

Properties
  • Flexible PVC hose, suitable for administering foods and nutrition
  • Reinforced with durable textile mesh
  • Operating pressure 15 bar (WD), burst pressure 50 bar (BD), measured at 23°C
  • Transport of food substances or fluids, with the exception of solutions with an alcohol content in excess of 15GL 
  • Retains shape in vacuum, up to diameter 25
  • Temperature range: -15°C to +60°C

Profilair

Applications
  • Transport of compressed air for machines and equipment
  • Transport of industrial gasses
  • Spraying equipment

Properties
  • Flexible PVC hose, suitable for administering foods and nutrition
  • Reinforced with durable textile mesh
  • Operating pressure 20 bar (WD), measured at 23°C
  • Transport of food substances or fluids, with the exception of solutions with an alcohol content in excess of 15GL
  • Retains shape in vacuum, up to diameter 25
  • Temperature range: -15°C to +60°C

Watering hose

Watering hoses are used, among other things, for watering and spraying. There are various types of PVS hoses available. 
If you require a GK coupling to be fitted on a hose, then please specify this when you order. We can then immediately fit the couplings to the hose (doing this yourself might lead to leakage).

Irrigation hose

Irrigation hoses are used to administer a consistent number of litres of water per minute to crops. This ensures a constant release of water around the crop.

Drainage hose

Drainage hoses are used to dispose of (excess) water.  Drainage hoses are available with or without sheathing.

Suction hose

Suction hoses are used to take in water and other fluids.  There are various types of suction hoses available:

Heliflex

Applications
  • Suction hose, applied in pumping fluids

Properties
  • Strong PVC hose
  • Reinforced with plastic rings, which prevents a vacuum from forming within the hose
Heliflex hose

Airflex

Applications
  • CO2 hose
  • Drainage (condensation extraction)
  • Also used as bildge pump hose, pond hose or cable protection

  • Highly flexible PVC hose, even at low temperatures
  • Reinforced with steel spiral, which prevents a vacuum from forming within the hose
  • Temperature range: -10 to 80°C

Ragno hose

The Ragno hose is a flexible, chemical resistant, high pressure hose. The hose is made from pliable PVC and has a double polyester insert. The Ragno hose is often used on spray trolleys.

  • Spraying crop protection agents
  • Pressure hose for fluids and compressed air

  • Temperature range: -15° C +60° C
  • Flexible and durable


Rango hose

Acid hose

The PTFE hose is resistant against almost all chemicals and acid compounds. Exceptions to this are fluid alkali metals and chlorine fluorides processed at high temperatures. Acid hoses must be replaced every year.

  • Aggressive fluids and gasses

Hydraulic hoses are used to connect moving, vibrating and flexible machine components or installations. The are applied in situations of high mechanical stress.
