The sound of escaping air is very annoying for the following reasons:

  • In general, the noise level is 90 - 100 dB (A) at 1 meter distance, with peaks exceeding 110 dB (A).
  • The impulsive nature of the noise makes it much more annoying that continuous noise (and thus more harmful for the hearing)
  • Due to the high frequency level, the ear is extra sensitive for the noise.
