Royal Brinkman's history comes to life with AI
4-12-2025
's-Gravenzande – To mark its 140th anniversary, Royal Brinkman has created a historical video using AI. With artificial intelligence, old black-and-white photos have been brought to life. Those very first photos are the most valuable, and thanks to the moving images, the company’s history comes to life in a fascinating way.
In the video, around twenty historical photos are placed in sequence along a timeline. It is wonderful to see how the old images come to life: how the first employees pose in front of the building in the centre of ’s-Gravenzande, how the flat glass was used, how vegetables and fruit were delivered by flat barges, and how the first Brinkman T-Ford was inspected upon delivery.
AI editing
Of course, it remains an AI edit, but how incredible is it that artificial intelligence can give us a glimpse into the past in this way. Sometimes AI is far ahead of its time, because this historical video even includes a self-driving car! Mies Bouwman is also smiling in the video as she presents the “Royal” designation during the 100th anniversary, and we see how Minister Elco Brinkman addresses board member Henk Brinkman (fourth generation).
140 years of innovation
During the family day earlier this year, marking the 140th anniversary, the video was first presented to Royal Brinkman employees. The video is now also available online. For Royal Brinkman, it offers a beautiful reflection on its rich history; a history in which the company has always worked together with growers on innovations.
How remarkable is it that, 140 years later, the company is still doing exactly what founder Cor Brinkman once started in 1885: supplying growers with products to improve crop yields. The slogan “Let’s improve together” perfectly reflects the essence of the company: continuously working alongside growers to achieve better cultivation
