Description

Effective Solution Against Root Damage by Pot Worms

With Phalae Protect Gauze, you can prevent root damage caused by pot worms, allowing the plant to continue developing healthily.

Benefits of Phalae Protect Gauze

  • Reduces the number of pot worms: The gauze helps decrease the pot worm population.
  • Prevents plant damage: It prevents pot worms from attacking the plant’s roots.
  • Improves the microclimate: The gauze creates a better environment for plant growth.
  • Reduces the need for biological control agents: Less intervention is needed thanks to the protective function of the gauze.

Reduces the Number of Pot Worms

Pot worms are the larvae of the fungus gnat Lyprauta. These should not be confused with true pot worms. The gnat spins silk threads and lays eggs in small cocoons inside the pot. The gauze is a fine-mesh netting material that covers the plant. It makes it more difficult for the gnats to lay eggs in the pot, effectively preventing a rapid increase in the pot worm population.

Prevents Root Damage

The gauze ensures that plants suffer less damage from pot worms. Due to its fine mesh, the larvae are unable to reach the root tips of the plant. During the first 10–12 weeks of the propagation phase, it’s crucial to cover the plants to protect them from pot worms. Root feeding causes several negative effects, such as stunted growth and increased vulnerability to fungi and bacteria.

Improves the Microclimate

Research carried out by a grower has shown that, in addition to reducing pot worm populations, the gauze also improves the microclimate for the plants. You can read more about this in our knowledge base article on pot worm control.

Application of Phalae Protect Gauze

Royal Brinkman can provide a custom frame structure for installing the Phalae Protect Gauze. The insect gauze can be supplied including a clamp and can be secured above the crop using a proper support structure.

Note: The gauze may shrink over time. Please take this into account when ordering the width. For questions about sizing or construction costs, contact your representative.
