Safety data sheet
Written by Jaap Lubbersen | Last update: 02-07-2019

Safety data sheets are full of abbreviations. These are not always easy to understand and therefore do not make it any easier to use a safety data sheet. In spite of this, it is very important to look at the Safety Data Sheet before using a certain substance, product or fertilizer. The sheets have been developed to clarify to the user how the product can be safely used. These documents are commonly abbreviated as (M)SDS, (Material) Safety Data Sheet. In this article our specialists list the most important information and abbreviations from Safety Data Sheets.

What does a safety data sheet say?

A safety data sheet contains everything the user needs to know about a certain product. SafetyDocs mentions the following 16 sections, based on European legislation:
  1. Identification of substance and of the company
  2. Hazard identification
  3. Composition and information on the constituents
  4. First aid measures
  5. Fire-fighting measures
  6. Accidental release measures
  7. Handling and storage
  8. Exposure controls/personal protection
  9. Physical and chemical properties
  10. Stability and reactivity
  11. Toxicological information
  12. Environmental information
  13. Instructions for disposal
  14. Transport information (ADR)
  15. Legally required information
  16. Other information
