The false spider mite is similar in color to the common greenhouse spider mite, yellow to orange-red. The difference is that the false spider mite has a dark spotted pattern on its body, while the common spider mite has only two spots on its body. Both types of mites are 0.3 mm in size, making them difficult to see with the naked eye.

The eggs of the false spider mite are bright red. Eggs are often laid around the veins of a leaf or on the underside of the leaf where they are attached to the stem. The larvae then emerge. They are orange-red in color and 0.14 mm long. Adult mites have 8 legs and move slowly. This pest is polyphagous, which means that it appears and feeds on several valuable plants. The false spider mite is most commonly found on Phaleanopsis, Geranium and Hybrids. Unlike the greenhouse mite, the false spider mite does not make webs in the plant.

False spider mites are mainly found on the underside of leaves. They cause a brown discoloration of the leaf, which leads to premature aging of the plant. This is partly because the mites secrete a toxin onto the plant. In addition, Brevipalpus species often transmit plant viruses. natural enemies, including predatory mites.
