Do not drain water
During frost periods check every day if ice formation has taken place in the water tank or in the basin. If this is the case, do not take any water from the water tank or the basin under any circumstances! The layer of ice will be frozen to the tank tarp. When subsequently the water level in the tank or the basin gets below the normal level, an air layer will be created under the ice and the ice will start sagging. As a result the tank tarp will be burdened because the layer of ice puts pressure on the tarp – that is additionally extra sensitive to crack at temperatures below 5°C. This may lead to cracks in the tank tarp, with consequent effects.
Do not walk on the tarp
During a frost period you had better not walk on the film of a basin. This too is too much of a burden for the tarp, which may lead to cracks and subsequent leakage.
Preventing ice formation in the water tank or the basin
An anti-algae tarp will slow down the freezing of the water in the water tank or basin. That is why we recommend that you cover your water tank or basin during the winter period by use of an anti-algae tarp.
You can choose to apply heating spirals in the water tank. Using a heat exchanger you ensure circulation of warm water in the tank, reducing the change of frost. You can also lead a PE-hose with warm water through the water tank or basin.
