Twine and jute twine

In horticulture, twine is often used for tying up crops in order to grow the crop in this way. Each crop has its own needs, so the choice of twine or jute twine depends on various factors. For one crop a thicker twine is needed because the fruits are heavy, while for the other crop the elasticity of the twine or jute twine is more important.

Twine for binding plants

Twine is usually used in the horticultural sector to support the plant and increase its growth. However, not every crop is the same and every crop has its own needs. That is why Royal Brinkman has developed various types of Valent Twine, each of which meets the wishes and needs of the crop. That is why we have various types of twine: 1/1000 (1 kg is about 1000 metres long), 1/1200 and 1/1500. At Royal Brinkman you will find a wide range twine for horticulture:
  • Tomato twine: tomato plants with a coarse variety can become quite heavy in the high season. That is why it is very important that the twine is strong enough to support the crop. 1/1000 and 1/1200 Valent rope is often used to bind tomato plants with a vine tomato. Tomato twine is often used in combination with a high wire hook.
  • Cucumber twine: cucumbers are also tied up by means of cucumber twine. In the cultivation of cucumbers often 1/1200 and 1/1500 Valent ropes are used.
Besides tomato twine and cucumber twine, Royal Brinkman also offers various types of twine for binding paprika, zucchini, eggplant and melon. The types of twine vary in thickness and elasticity. Moreover, the twine can be ordered in different colours. These colours are mainly used for the recognition of the arrest of, for example, a thief or interplantation. Therefore, you should always be well advised by our specialist Crop rotation. This will prevent you from hanging the wrong rope and prevent damage to the crop.

Types of rope materials

In horticulture, different materials of twine are used. Partly because of the increasing attention to sustainability in professional horticulture, the demand for a biodegradable twine has become ever greater. At Royal Brinkman you will find various types of twine made of different materials. In our assortment you will find among others:
  • Polypropylene twine: current twine that has traditionally been used to bind the crop in horticulture. This type of material is not biodegradable. Royal Brinkman's Valent Twine is made of polypropylene;
  • PLA twine: Polylactic acid rope is a biodegradable twine.
  • Jute twine: Jute twine has been used for centuries and is mainly used in the cultivation of green beans, melon and cucumber.
  • Jute Cordenka: twine made from a wire of cordenka and some wires of jute. The twine is fully biodegradable.
Our specialists explain all the differences between the types of twine in an article.
