Twine

Greenhouse twine is often used in horticulture to string vegetable plants, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers to make sure the plant grows vertically. The choice of twine depends on several factors because each crop has its own needs. For a crop with heavy fruits, you will need a thicker twine, while for the other crop the elasticity of the twine or jute twine is more important. Royal Brinkman offers a wide range twines for greenhouses for professional horticulture.

Greenhouse twine for trellising of your vines

Twine is commonly used in horticulture to support the plant and increase its growth. However, not every plant is the same and each plant has its own needs. That is why Royal Brinkman has developed different types of Valent Twine, each of which meets the wishes and needs of the crop. That is why we have different types of twine: 1/1000 (1 kg is about 1000 meters long), 1/1200 and 1/1500. At Royal Brinkman you will find a wide range of greenhouse twines:
  • Tomato Twine: Tomato plants with a large vine can become quite heavy in the peak season. Therefore, it is very important that the twine is strong enough to support the plant. 1/1000 and 1/1200 Valent Twine is strong and is often used to trellis tomato plants with vine tomatoes. Tomato twine is often used in combination with a high wire hook in commercial greenhouse tomato production.
  • Cucumber Twine: Cucumbers are also tied with cucumber twine. In cucumber production, 1/1200 and 1/1500 Valent twines are often used. However, the most common way of growing cucumbers is to trellis the plant with only twine. More often, growers use high wire trellising for cucumbers.
  • Pepper Twine: In pepper production they often use 1/1200 and 1/1500. The best combination in pepper growing is twine and clips. You can use bio twine or polypropylene twine for peppers.
The twine can also be ordered in different colors. These different colors are mainly used to create a head from side shoots or side branches. It is important to choose the right twine to avoid crop damage. Our crop rotation specialists will be happy to help you make the right choice.

Valent twine

Valent rope is a strong rope that does not absorb moisture, therefore there is less chance of rope breakage. It is a twine suitable for multiple crops. Think of tomato, eggplant, paprika and cucumber cultivation. The rope is made of synthetic fiber polypropylene, synthetic fibers are (compared to natural fibers) stronger. Because the rope does not absorb moisture the rope does not become heavy and is easy to handle. Valent rope is available in different sizes (1/1000, 1/1200 and 1/1500). The 1/1000 Valent rope variety is the strongest choice: 1 kilo of Valent rope gives 1000 meters of rope. Depending on the crop you can make the best choice in terms of carrying capacity. Tip: also look at the specifications of the product before making a choice!

Different materials of greenhouse twine

In horticulture, different materials of twine are used in greenhouses. This is partly because there is an increasing focus on sustainability in professional horticulture. The demand for biodegradable twine has been increasing. At Royal Brinkman you will find various types of twine made of different materials. In our assortment you will find among others:
  • Polypropylene twine: conventical twine which is perfect for growing tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and peppers. The twine is strong and does not absorb moist, reducing the risk of twine breakage. Polypropylene twine is known as Valent twine in our assortment.
  • PLA twine: also known as Polylactic acid twine, is spun and then twisted, giving it additional strength. PLA twine has a tensile strength of around 29 kg and is not UV-sensitive.
  • Jute twine : is only used in the greenhouse cultivation of beans, melons and cucumbers. Due to the coarse structure, these plants are well capable of growing around the twine. As a result, fewer clips are required, reducing the risk of bending of the cucumber plant.
  • Jute Cordenka: is manufactured from a natural viscose, which makes it fully biodegradable.
