How to pick the right twine for tomato hooks

twine
Written by Martin Meuldijk | Last update 27-06-2023

High wire hooks come in different shapes and sizes. There are also different types of tomato twines that can be wound onto the high wire hook. The choice for a type of twine for high-wire hooks is determined by the crop, the maximum plant load and the amount of UV light in the greenhouse. We help you choose the right tomato twine for your hooks.

The most commonly used greenhouse twine

  • 1/1000 – 1 kg is about 1.000 meters
  • 1/1200 – 1 kg is about 1.200 meters
  • 1/1500 – 1 kg is about 1.500 meters

Tomato twine advice

Which tomato twine is most suitable for you depends on your cultivation. The general guidelines are as follows:

For one crop a thicker tomato twine is required because the fruits are heavy, while with another crop a thinner twine is sufficient. Also in one crop the elasticity of the tomato twine is more important than with the other crop. Therefore, always get advise when choosing the right twine, because you do not want to choose the wrong twine and break it halfway through the cultivation! Our specialist will be happy to assist you.
