To place an electric fence, you always need an energizer, a power conductor (ribbon, wire, etc.), fence posts, electric fence insulators and earthing equipment. What types of products you use for this depends on the type of animal, the size of the area and whether it concerns permanent fencing or a mobile variant.  

When you purchase an electric fence, you first need to choose between permanent or mobile fencing. Permanent fencing is – as the word suggests – permanent. Mobile fencing can be moved. If you choose mobile fencing, you make use of different posts and a different energizer. 

The type of conductor you need for the electric fence also depends on the type of animal you use it for. For instance, there is a different type of conductor for chickens than for horses. In other words: the current conduction must be safe and suitable for the animal species. Take this into account when you purchase it.

What energizer is best to use partially depends on the size of the plot/meadow. The larger the plot, the more powerful the energizer must be to generate sufficient current on the entire fence. You can choose between a mains energizer, a battery energizer, or a solar-powered energizer. 

Battery or solar-powered energizers are mainly suitable for use with mobile or temporary fencing, because they are easy to move. They can also be used in places where there is no power supply. The batteries of a battery-powered energizer must be replaced every x number of weeks or months; a solar-powered battery charges itself. Take into account that a mains energizer has more power than a battery energizer or a solar-powered energizer.

An electric fence often has one or more passageways. To easily open the passage, you can equip the fence wire with gate handles. This allows you to easily open and close it.
